At a glance

A fan hum or echoey room can make an otherwise useful tutorial hard to follow. Adobe Podcast’s Enhance Speech offers AI-assisted cleanup for spoken recordings. Before processing an entire voiceover, test a short section and check whether the result preserves the speaker’s words and delivery.

Keep the original and choose a useful sample

Section 1 of 4

Make a separate working copy. Select 20–30 seconds containing normal speech, a quiet sentence and a pause. Include the background problem you want to reduce. Testing only the clearest sentence tells you little about difficult sections.

For client recordings, confirm that uploading to Adobe fits the client’s permission and data-handling requirements. Use your own recording if those details are unresolved.

Check your plan’s controls

Adobe lists free limits of 30 minutes and 500 MB per audio file, with one hour of enhancement per day. Free access excludes video upload and bulk processing.

Adobe lists Podcast Premium access through Firefly Pro, with up to four hours per day and files up to 1 GB. Check the current account's per-file duration and available controls before processing a longer recording or buying access. Adobe’s plan comparison and Enhance Speech FAQ.

Compare a short test

Open Enhance Speech, sign in and upload the sample. After processing, compare the result with the original at a similar listening volume.

Are quiet words understandable? Does the voice sound natural? Are pauses comfortable? Check names, numbers and sentence endings against the original. A cleaner background alone is not enough to approve the result.

Use the quietest recording environment you can. Enhancement does not remove the need for a clear source recording.

Adjust only what needs changing

If your plan includes adjustment controls, use them conservatively. Reduce processing if it makes the speaker sound unnatural. Keep the tone suitable for the tutorial, interview or narration. The Enhance Speech page describes the available controls; their presence depends on the plan.

Premium source separation provides independent control of speech, background noise and music, plus downloads of isolated tracks. Use those controls for a selective mix. Removing music does not establish permission to publish a recording. March 2026 update.

Review the complete export

Once the sample passes your review, process the full recording and listen throughout. Check the exported file on headphones and a phone speaker, then place it back into the finished video or episode.

Keep the original alongside the approved version. If cleanup damages an important phrase, use the original section or record it again. Compare the complete review effort with your usual workflow; no time saving or accuracy is guaranteed.
